INTERNATIONAL CHILD ABDUCTION

The so called "tug of love" cases are complex to handle and experience in this area of law is imperative. The Hague and European Conventions have been agreed between many of the countries in the world . The ethos behind this, in very simple terms, is that where a child has been removed to another country by a parent without the consent of the other parent, unless certain limited exceptions apply, the child must be returned to the country from which he or she was removed. This does not mean that the child has to remain in that country permanently but the judicial system of that country is the only one which can decide where the child is to live in the future.

McIntosh McTaggart has a wealth of experience in these cases. Anne McTaggart is a member of REUNITE and has dealt with cases in the USA, Ireland, France, Spain, South Africa and Switzerland as well as within the UK.
